Akwa United’s 1-0 win over Kano Pillars in Kano was marred by violence in Kano on Sunday. The game at the Sani Abacha Stadium, saw Kano Pillars losing their first home defeat of the season. Christian Pyagbara scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute and the Kano fans could not bear the loss and resorted to violence as soon as the referee signalled the end of the game. Extrsportsnigeria.com learnt that they invaded the pitch and chased the match officials off with weapons.
The guest players and their officials hid in the dressing room and left the stadium much later under heavy police protection.
In Lagos MFM FC defeated El-Kanemi 3-0 in a top-of-the-table clash of the Nigeria Professional Football League at the Agege Stadium.
Goals from Austine Ogunye and Sikiru Olatunbosun in the 19th, 29th minute lifted the spirit of the home fans but it was Stephen Odey’s goal in the 45th minute via a penalty which sealed the win for MFM that created the biggest excitement. Odey who many have said deserves a national call up scored as the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr watched. Odey has now scored 14 league goals for MFM this season.
MFM are now top in the league table on 33 points. Plateau United, who did not play, are second on 32 points with a game in hand.
El-Kanemi remain on 30 points and third in the table.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan Shooting Stars defeated Niger Tornadoes 2-1. It was Sunday Faleye who opened the scoring for Shooting Stars in the 36th minute before Wilfred Ammeh hit back for Tornadoes on 76 minutes. But in the 81st minute Emmanuel Asiri scored the winner to give Shooting Stars the win.
