Baxter leads Bafana against Nigeria

Next month’s African Nations Cup qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa is getting clearer pictures as the South African Football Association (SAFA) has named SuperSport United manager Stuart Baxter as coach of Bafana Bafana for the 2019 qualifier against the Super Eagles in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

SAFA announced on Friday it had agreed in terms with SuperSport United on the release of the coach to Bafana at the end of the current PSL season. Baxter will be officially unveiled as the coach of Bafana Bafana by SAFA president Danny Jordaan upon his return from CAF and FIFA commitments.

The SuperSport coach is however expected to continue to fulfill his coaching responsibilities at the club for the remaining four ABSA Premiership fixtures as well as the Nedbank Cup and the Confederations Cup while running the national side.

SAFA and SuperSport have agreed to work together to ensure that the Baxter gets time off post the final league match on 27 May to prepare Bafana Bafana for the highly advertised match against Nigeria. South Africa stopped Nigeria from qualifying for the last Nations Cup.
