Eagles steady in FIFA ranking

Super Eagles maintained their 47th position of last month in the month of May FIFA Ranking released by the game’s governing body in Zurich on Thursday. The three-time African champions heading to the 2018 World Cup also maintained their sixth spot in the continental grading.

Indeed, the first 47 positions remain totally unchanged from April’s ranking.

Nigeria’s Russia 2018 Group D opponents of Croatia, Iceland and Argentina also all maintained their previous rankings. The Argentineans remain number five in the world, Croatia in number 18 and World Cup debutants Iceland on number 22.

Back in Africa, Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifying opponents also maintain their previous positions as South Africa, Libya and Seychelles stay 72nd, 100th and 194th in the world respectively. And the Democratic Republic of Congo, who will face the Eagles in a friendly match on May 28 in Port Harcourt, remain number 38 in the world.

Most of the top 50 positions remain unchanged with Germany, Brazil and Belgium the leading trio from last month. ON the list, Portugal in the fourth spot and Argentina fifth; in sixth place is Switzerland, France seventh, Spain eighth, Chile ninth and Poland 10th to complete the Top Ten of world football as confirmed by FIFA.

The next FIFA ranking will be published on June 7, 2018 with the World Cup kicking off the following week.
