The Super Eagles will have their official training inside the Saint Petersburg Stadium on Monday. The Nigerian officials confirmed 5:30pm local time as they prepare for their Group D Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup clash against Argentina on Tuesday.
The training session will however be open to the world media for 15 minutes.
The Nigeria Football Federation Twitter handle announced on Monday, “Our official pre match press conference, ahead of Tuesday’s game vs #ARG holds at 5pm today. Our official training, which is open for 15 minutes filming, begins immediately after, at 5.30pm. Venue: St Petersburg Stadium.”
Nigeria must at least get a draw against Argentina and hope the Icelanders do not defeat Croatia with a wide goal margin. In practical sense, it is safer for Nigeria to defeat Argentina out rightly on Tuesday.
Nigeria switched to a 3-5-2 formation for the 2-0 win against Iceland on Friday, and could name an unchanged line-up. Left wing-back Bryan Idowu was replaced by Tyronne Ebuehi at half-time in what appeared a tactical substitution, and it appears Ebuehi would keep the position as a starter on Tuesday.
After deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation against Iceland and a 3-4-3 versus Croatia, Argentina are expected to change once again, with possibly a 4-3-3 formation or 4-4-2.
Nobody can vouch for Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero to keep his starting spot after his error against Croatia proved too costly for the South Americans.
Angel Di Maria and Ever Banega are in contention for recalls, while Gonzalo Higuain could replace Sergio Aguero up front
Croatia lead the group on six points and have already qualified for the round of 16; the Super Eagles are second on three points, Iceland and Argentina who both have one point, are third and fourth respectively.
