Enyimba beat Kano Pillars 2-1, MFM and Rangers in 1-1 draw

Enyimba overcame Kano Pillars 2-1 at the Enyimba Stadium in a Nigeria Professional Football League played on Sunday evening.

The former African champions had to produce a response after a loss to rivals Heartland in their last match played at midweek. Coach Fatai Osho introduced new players handing starting places to Anayo Iwuala, Orok Gabriel and Stephen.

Enyimba FC media confirmed that Imo Obot kept his place while experienced defender Nelson Ogbonnaya was handed his first appearance this season.

Enyimba set off with strength and created openings with Dayo Ojo and Anayo coming close within the opening fifteen minutes. The first goal of the day was scored shortly after.

Orok doubled the goal seven minutes to the break, getting released by Ojo’s measured pass to sprint on goal and fire past Ibrahim Idrissu.

The youngster almost got his brace seventy seconds after, but saw his run cut short by an onrushing Idrissu.

The scorers continued to impress with their speed and trickery in the second period as Samad Kadiri and substitute Martins Usule got chances, but it was Fahad Usman that scored the half’s only goal with a spectacular free kick four minutes to the end.

Leaders Rivers United maintained their solid form beating Heartland 2-1 also in a match played in Port Harcourt while hosts Plateau United drilled Adamawa United 3-0 in Jos in the biggest win of the day.

MFM and their guests Rangers settled for a 1-1 result at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. Enyimba
