Hope rises again for Omeruo at Chelsea

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo could finally find a real berth at Chelsea this term as he resumes with the club for pre-season programmes.

Omeruo who has been always loaned out will join Victor Moses and others on the 16th of July at the club’s Surrey headquarters before they leave for a training camp in Australia. While Omeruo is yet to feature for Chelsea in an official game, Moses has become a regular. Moses had spent three seasons away from Stamford Bridge on loan at Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham played 38 times in all competitions over the course of the 2017/18 campaign, and ended the closed season winning the English FA Cup for the first time.

Apart from the duo, another Nigeria international who was left out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Ola Aina, will also be part of the pre-season events. Aina and and other Chelsea non-World Cup players are expected to resume at the club this weekend.

Moses played in all three games for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia while Omeruo starred in the team’s last two games. Omeruo was hailed by many including Chelsea for his aerial battles against Iceland, a match Nigeria won by 2-0.

The Chelsea players will have medical and fitness tests at Cobham. Chelsea’s first pre-season fixture is against Perth Glory in Australia on July 23.
