Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr is desirous to field the same line up that thrashed Cameroon 4-0 in Uyo on Friday but admits he may be forced to drop Odion Ighalo from the game, Extrasportsnigeria.com reports from Yaoundé.
Rohr who spoke with our correspondent after the Super Eagles training session at the Ahmadu Ahidjo Stadium in Cameroon on Sunday said the injury the striker sustained in Uyo in the first leg appears not properly healed. He said the player has not shown enough recovery to guarantee him an on field role in the crucial Monday second leg.
Rohr said, “We will most likely start with the same line up except for Ighalo because of the injury. We could not take the decision on him today but we hope to take a decision on his fitness level tomorrow. But there’s nothing to worry about as we have adequate replacements for him. Kelechi didn’t start for instance in the first game but he is good enough to play for the team any day. And so there should not be any problem about that.”
Rohr said the team would be resolute in their attack and defence in spite of the wide margin the Eagles beat the Lions in Uyo.
“It may look like they have no hope but you know they want to win this match. This is why it is going to be quite a tough match. No team suffers such defeat and not fight back. This is a match every Cameroonian wants to win and that is why we working extra hard to come out of it good.”
Eagles arrived in Yaoundé at 1.20pm on Sunday aboard a chartered Arik Air flight from Uyo.
The match is billed to kick off at 6pm on Monday. Nigeria and Cameroon are on the same time belt.
