Injured Onyekuru returns to Everton

Nigeria attacker Henry Onyekuru has returned to Everton following a serious knee injury while on loan at Anderlecht. The attacker confirmed his return to England via a tweet on Saturday.

He tweeted, “Back at @Everton a little earlier than expected, I am so grateful for the facilities and the medical team working hard to get me back playing ASAP! The Lord is my strength.”

The player was to undergo surgery on his knee after being stretchered off in a Belgian league match two weeks ago.

He got injured late into Anderlecht’s 1-0 win over his former club Eupen in a Belgian First Division A fixture and Anderlecht confirmed he would undergo surgery and be out for several months. The injury has practically erased his chances of making the Nigeria team to the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Onyekuru joined Everton from Eupen at the start of this season but was immediately loaned out to Anderlecht. He has scored nine goals in 19 league appearances for Anderlecht and 10 goals in 28 games in all competitions.
