Messi, Aguero, Higuain make Argentina’s World Cup team

Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli named on Monday listed his final 23-man roster for the 2018 World Cup holding in Russia.

The squad is expectedly led by Barcelona and world superstar Lionel Messi with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero as the next candidate on the team list.

The final team list also has Manchester United’s Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo; Chelsea number two goalkeeper Willy Caballero and West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini.

The Argentina-based players on the list are Franco Armani (River Plate), Maxi Meza (Independiente) and Cristian Pavon (Boca Juniors).

In all, the Argentinean list has three goalkeepers, six defenders, nine midfielders and five strikers.

The South Americans have been drawn alongside Croatia, Iceland and Nigeria in Group D and they play the Super Eagles for the fifth time in the World Cup at Krestovsky Stadium, Saint Petersburg on June 26 which is also the last match at the group stage for both teams.

Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr released a 30-man list last week. Nigeria will take on DR Congo in a friendly match in Port Harcourt on May 28 just in time before Rohr cuts the list to meet up with the FIFA deadline.
