The Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has commended Peak Milk, Nigeria’s Number1 milk brand from the stables of FrieslandCampina WAMCO for renovating the paralympians’ power-lifting gym at the National Stadium in Lagos.
The Minister gave this commendation during the handover ceremony of the renovated facility held at the stadium on Friday, January 19.
Dalung said, “The newly renovated gym, which is now of world-class standard would further inspire athletes, especially our Para-Powerlifting Team to continue to push the limits of excellence by winning more laurels for Nigeria.”
The Minister then called on other corporate bodies to emulate FrieslandCampina WAMCO and the Peak brand by partnering with government at all levels to support sports development in the country.
The Managing Director, FrieslandCampina WAMCO, Mr. Ben Langat said that the brand took up the challenge to renovate the stadium, to use the story of the paralympians to inspire and motivate other Nigerians across all walks of life.
“We were inspired by the achievement of the paralympians whose willpower, drive and self-motivation to win against all odds have seen them shine despite the obsolete and non-functional gym equipment and facilities they had to use in the past. They have shown us all that regardless of whatever challenges we face, with determination, we can always reach for our Peak,” Langat said.
Langat then challenged the Para-Powerlifting Team which is currently ranked Number 1 in the world to make good use of the newly installed world class gym equipment and continuously make the country proud through several record breaking achievements.
Also speaking at the event, coach of Nigeria’s Para-Powerlifting Team, Feyisetan Are, commended Peak Milk for coming to the aid of the athletes by transforming the National Stadium gym into a world-class facility and for also supporting the team with monthly supply of milk products.
“This would definitely go a long way to enhance our training process and spur us to more success,” Are said.
The ceremony was capped off with the rendition of the Peak unstoppable theme song written and performed by the acclaimed music star Cobhams Asuquo.
