Nigeria, Argentina World Cup match sold out, Eagles remain 52nd

Super Eagles match against Argentina on June 26 in Saint Petersburg has been sold out FIFA’s ticketing system has confirmed. Nigeria’s other two group games against Croatia and Iceland however still have tickets untouched.

The most expensive ticket for these group games goes for over N70,000 in Nigeria’s local currency at the current exchange rate.

All three group games of Egypt have been sold out. They are Egypt versus Uruguay, Russia and Egypt and Saudi Arabia versus Egypt.

Several other matches involving other African teams at Russia 2018 have also been sold out – Japan versus Senegal is confirmed sold out; Belgium versus Tunisia and Portugal against Morocco.

Football governing body, FIFA, on Thursday published its latest rankings of national teams.

The Super Eagles retained their global position of 52, while they are seventh in the continental ranking.

Tunisia, Senegal, Congo DR, Morocco and Egypt are the top five teams in Africa in that order.

Nigeria’s three rivals in the group stage of Russia 2018 World Cup – Argentina, Croatia and Iceland – sit in the 4th, 15th and 18th place respectively in the updated rankings.

Eagles next two friendly games opponents Poland and Serbia are ranked 6th and 34th respectively.

There were no changes in the top five. Germany top the ranking, with Brazil, Portugal and Belgium completing the best five teams in the world.
