Nigeria to play Senegal, Congo
The Nigeria Football Federation officials have confirmed two high-level friendly matches for the Super Eagles ahead of the team’s key World Cup qualifiers against African champions Cameroon. The Russia 2018 fixture has the Eagles hosting the Lions in Uyo on August 28 with the return match in Limbe on September 2, reports extrasportsnigeria.com.
By the arrangement, the Eagles will take on Senegal in a friendly in London on March 23. The other team has not been confirmed but it has been learnt that the NFF officials are talking to Congo DR and also Ghana for games in London.
“It could mean playing both countries also (Congo and Ghana),” an FA member told extrasportsnigeria.com.
The Super Eagles top the qualifying Group B with six points from two matches, while Cameroon are second on two points. Algeria and Zambia are the other teams in the group. Zambia and Algeria are on a point each with the overall group winners advancing to the World Cup in Russia next year.
The NFF executive committee met on Tuesday in Abuja after which the friendlies decisions were announced. Other decisions affecting the leagues and the administration of the game in Nigeria were also taken.
