Okpekpe Road Race gets tracking App
Organisers of the IAAF label Okpekpe International 10km Road Race have launched an App to help fans follow the progress of friends, family or any of the participants who will be running at the fifth edition of the race. The event comes up on Saturday, May 13 in Okpekpe, Edo State in Nigeria.
The Information Technology and Social Media coordinator Diran Mabo, for the race revealed that the tracking App, the first to be launched for a road race in Nigeria offers mobile features designed to address three core digital needs: information delivery, sponsor activation and race day experience.
“This is a completely new experience we have designed to engage the athletes and the fans either coming for the race or who wish to find out from any part of the world updates on the race,” Mabo said.
“If you an athlete or a fun seeker running for fun or charity at the race, you can keep fans, friends and family up to date on your performance with the live tracking App which allows friends and family to track real-time activities and progress of athletes during the race.”
The App also helps in ensuring a safe event by monitoring the field of participants during the race.
”There will be an online map with live position of participants, live position updates and a live leaderboard to show the position of the top 10 runners,” said Mabo.
The App is available on iPhone and Android App stores.
The Okpekpe road race is powered by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, one of the very best in sports marketing and hospitality business in Nigeria.
It is the first and only road race in Nigeria that has been granted full membership of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and the only race with an IAAF label status in West Africa.
