Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has said he would feature a full strength squad in Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match against Algeria. Nigeria fans are eagerly waiting to see if Victor Osimhen and Henry Onyekuru would play any role.
The duo and Francis Uzoho, are the only members of the squad yet to play in the competition despite Rohr’s rotation strategy.
But given Rohr’s statement in Cairo on Saturday the two attackers may file out against Algeria in Cairo. Osimhen and Onyekuru could get some playing time, but Uzoho may not be as lucky as he expected to warm the bench throughout the championship or at least for the next match.
“We had two changes before the game against South Africa, the winning team against Cameroon has been changed and it is possible that we will change the team again because all the players are ready to go,” Rohr Goal during Saturday’s pre-match conference.
“We have nine strikers in the team, played seven but we cannot play all of them at the same time. The young ones are also here to learn.
“Out of 23 players, 20 players have played already which is a lot and I hope we can see the other two (Onyekuru and Osimhen).
“It is difficult for the third goalkeeper coming in. The moment has come to bring the best team against Algeria.”
Nigeria will play their 14th semi-final in AFCON, more than any other team.
