Super Eagles camp peaceful – Onazi

Nigeria midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi has denied reports suggesting the Super Eagles camp is in turmoil with the rumoured disagreement between him and team captain, Mikel Obi. Onazi insists he is not quarrelling with any player in the Nigerian team, reports.

He spoke against the backdrop of widespread stories that he is at loggerheads with Mikel, which is said to have got to a head when he was scolded by the skipper for his poor play during Saturday’s loss to England.

Onazi was left out of Nigeria’s squad that lost 1-0 to Czech Republic and it was said to be a form of punishment for his attitude toward Mikel, but he has now labelled reports of him having serious quarrel with the national captain as false.

Onazi though admits he has not been at his best in recent games but adds that his performance has not affected his outstanding relationship with the Tianjin TEDA of China star.

He said, “It’s ridiculous to read that I don’t take orders from him. He’s an outstanding individual and it hurts that this could be out there without verification.

“I relate well with Mikel, he is our captain and our leader. We all grew up together in Jos and he’s someone I have looked up to since I started my career. I get along with him and he has been helpful encouraging me after the criticism I received after the England game.

“We are here to do our country proud and to achieve that we must improve on our performances.”
