CAF Champions League: Rivers Angels beaten by Mamalodi Downs

Rivers Angels have lost their second straight game in the CAF Champions League for Ladies following their 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns Tuesday evening.

The South Africans got their campaign off to a winning start on Saturday after defeating Vihiga Queens FC while Rivers Angels suffered a 3-0 defeat to ASFAR of Morocco.

On Tuesday, the South African champions got the breakthrough on 17 minutes, with captain Zanele Nhlapo finding the back of the net from a corner situation.

There was a chance for Sundowns to double their lead 10 minutes when Rhoda Mulaudzi’s cross found Andisiwe Mgcoyi in the box, but the latter saw her flick sail over the crossbar.

The Nigerian outfit did throw bodies forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages of the encounter, but Sundowns’ defence remained firm and held out for the win.
