IfeanyiUbah pound MFM, Enyimba beaten in Jos
IfeanyiUbah bounced back from their opening day palaver to crush MFM FC 4-0 in Nnewi. It was Yaya Kone who opened scoring at the tenth minute of the match, before King Osanga got a header, on 33 minutes.
It was Jimoh Oni’s turn on 35 minutes, as well as Ifeanyi Onuigbo who topped it all at 84th minute.
Reigning champions Enugu Rangers got their first point after struggling to a 1-1 draw against Nasarawa United. Adamu Hassan scored on 49 minutes for Nasarawa, but Fortune Omoniwari restored point for the NPFL defending champions.
In Jos and at the Ryan Pang Stadium, Enyimba were beaten 3-1 by Plateau United. The Enyimba players had boasted that they would beat their hosts as a birthday present for their coach Ogunbote who marked his 54th birthday on Wednesday. It was Elisha Gorbe who converted a free-kick to open scoring at the 12th minute of the game, and the People’s Elephant had all efforts to equalize frustrated. Kabiru Umar converted a Sunday Ingbede cross on 55 minutes to double the lead, and Emeka Umeh fired in on 80 minutes to make it three. Ikechukwu Ibenegbu scored two minutes later, for Enyimba.
At the Nest of Champions, Akwa United and Rivers United settled for a 1-1 draw with Cyril Olisema scoring on nine minutes for the hosts, before Bernard Ovoke equalized on 26 minutes.
