I’m excited being with Super Eagles, says new boy Akpoguma
Nigeria’s new player and Hoffenheim centre back Kevin Akpoguma has expressed his joy at joining the Super Eagles in their training camp in Austria.
Akpoguma who faced Nigeria with Germany in a FIFA U20 World Cup may feature for the Eagles as they face Algeria on Friday. The defender was recently granted a change of association by FIFA.
The player who spoke with the Super Eagles Media Officer Toyin Ibitoye at the Austria camp said via a video, “My name is Kevin Akpoguma from TSG Hoffenheim. I am 25 years old and I am very happy to be here with the Nigerian team.
“It’s a great experience at the moment here to be with the guys, everyone is very happy and nice.
“We are looking forward to the two friendly games we have now in this window, Algeria and Tunisia, and then we are preparing for the qualification in November. I am very excited to be here.”
He has an extra message to Nigerians back home.
“I am very excited to see the country again, when I was sixteen I was there and it’s now a long time so I am very happy to visit the country.”
Akpoguma made a total of 62 appearances for Germany’s youth teams before applying for a change of association. It was learnt that the Nigerian federation actually first approached the player six years ago while he was still with the German juniors.
