Kida, Total lift girls’ school in Maiduguri with facilities

It was a dream come true for pupils of Government Girls Secondary School, Maiduguri on Friday as the school’s basketball court got a facelift courtesy of the President of Nigeria Basketball Federation, Musa Kida.

Kida made the announcement after the women’s Inter Secondary Female Competition game between GGSS, Maiduguri and Yerwa Government Secondary School played the finals.

It was all sweet for GGSS after they had won the finals 42-12, the NBBF president through his AMK Foundation announced the immediate renovation of the GGSS basketball court.

Represented by the North East Zonal Representative on the board, Alhaji Abba Kaka said: “the latest announcement is in continuation of the Musa Kida drive to develop basketball in Nigeria.”

Recently, the retired Deputy Managing Director and present Non-Executive Director of Total E&P Nig. Ltd facilitated the construction of a brand new building for the school.

The building fully equipped by Total comprises a modern laboratory, computer centre and an administrative unit.

Kida said, “The foundation is not just focused on basketball development alone which is why we are different from others. We have been able to identify the synergy and importance of sports and education.

“We have demonstrated this through our various 3×3 basketball and 5-a-side basketball programs organised amongst tertiary institutions across Nigeria.”

He seized the opportunity to enjoin private individuals and corporate organizations to join the NBBF in building and developing basketball.

He declared that with the increasing population of young Nigerians and the dearth of facilities, the task of grassroots discovery and development cannot be left alone for the federation.
