Leaders Plateau fall, Rangers, Wikki secure away points

Nigeria football league leaders, Plateau United, were beaten 2-1 at Abia Warriors on Sunday, Extrasportsnigeria.com reports.

Shedrack Asiegbu gave home team, Abia Warriors, an early lead against Plateau, who fought back well to draw level before Asiegbu slotted home the winner from the penalty spot late in the encounter.

But the loss has not made much of a difference at the top as Plateau still stay top on 45 points from 25 matches and that is five points clear of second-placed El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri. El Kanemi bounced back from a 3-0 loss at Katsina United to beat Remo Stars 2-0 in Maiduguri. Remo have been forced back to the bottom of the table on 26 points.

Defending champions, Rangers of Enugu are finding their feet back as they recorded a draw at Niger Tornadoes in a game played at Lokoja while Wikki Tourists also recorded an away draw against FC IfeanyiUbah.

The league’s leading scorer, Stephen Odey put MFM level on 58 minutes at Kano Pillars also on Sunday, but the Pillars recovered to win 3-1 at home. The goals came off Rabiu Ali, Adamu Mohammed and substitute Amos Gyang.

Alhassan Ibrahim scored his 11th goal of the season, courtesy of an early penalty goal for Akwa United against Katsina United with Musa Newman doubling the home team’s advantage also in the first half.

Shooting Stars shone again after poor runs to beat ABS 2-0, while neighbours Sunshine Stars put behind them their woes with a 2-1 win over visiting Gombe United, who are now second from bottom with 27 points.
