NBBF boss Kida dedicates award to basketball family
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida has dedicated his Sun Sports Personality of the Year 2019 award to basketball stakeholders within and outside the country.
Kida, said at the presentation ceremony aired on Arise and Channels television stations on Saturday, December 12 that he was honoured to have been considered for the award but pointed out that it wouldn’t have been possible without the basketball family.
“Personally, I am elated and humbled by this unsolicited award. I didn’t know about this but I must commend the management and staff of the Sun newspapers. I humbly accept this award on behalf of the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation, basketball stakeholders- the players, coaches, technical officials and the media. A special thanks goes to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Mr. President who have been very supportive.
“What we try to do as a board is to create the right environment for our players and coaches to give their best at all times. This, we will continue to do to the best of our ability and knowledge so that the environment is such that the players don’t think of anything else other than to play at their optimum and their very proud best for Nigeria.
“We are proud that our men and women teams have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a feat no other country on the African continent can boast of.”
Kida noted that the award is one that will make him and his board work harder for the growth and development of basketball especially at the home front.
The immediate past Deputy Managing Director of Total E&P Nigeria again stated that the absence of the Premier League for men is one area that hurts him with litigations tying the hands of the Federation.
