The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick has made public the conditions that the body has given the Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for the renewal of his contract.
Pinnick who spoke in Lagos on Monday said amongst other things that the coach must reside in Nigeria and earn his salary in the Nigerian currency, Naira instead the American Dollars, Extrasportsnigeria.com reports.
He said, “We have told him (Rohr) he must live in Nigeria, and that his salary will be paid in Naira (the Nigeria currency). He must go round League venues and see how he can nurture the players. If he is able to accept, we have a deal.
He then added: “We will seek legal opinions on international coaches contracts. We shall also seek the opinion of the Sports Ministry. He should get the contract (with the new conditions) in about a week’s time so that he can revert after studying it.”
The issue of renewing Rohr’s contract or not has remained on the front burner since the last quarter of 2019. His current contract will expire in June.
But even as Pinnick is stating the conditions, Rohr remains stranded in Europe and will be unable to return to the country soon. His absence has meant the suspension of some proposed Nigeria Football Federation events.
Rohr is in France and will have to remain in France due to travel restrictions imposed as part of the efforts to check the Coronavirus pandemic.
Rohr was scheduled to return to Nigeria to participate in a series of programmes but has now only been able to get in contact with his players via different means of communications and will return to Nigeria “as soon as logistically possible” according to the NFF.
