Team Nigeria on Friday won three gold medals as the 8th African Arm Wrestling Championship flagged off at the Molade Okoya Thomas Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Extrasportsnigeria.com reports.
The medals were won by Jacinta Umunakwe in the 70kg Women Left Arm, Victoria Johnson 80+kg also in the women’s class, while Olubode Fayowole won gold in the men’s 60kg class.
The celebration continued for Nigeria in the lower categories as the team won four silver and two bronze medals. Adebukola Adeyanju, Ibiyeye Oluwabukola, Ime Ntuk and Femi Akinsanya all won silver medals. Nigeria’s bronze medals were won by Nneka Samuel and Lukmon Isa.
Nigeria made marks but it was the Mali team that dominated events in the first day winning six gold medals. Cameroon, Egypt and Ghana are the other competitors.
The competition continues on Saturday with events in the Right Arm, in 10 different weight categories.
