Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr has hinted that Amkar Perm defender Brian Idowu will go a long way in the left full back. The Russian-Nigerian will feature against Argentina on Tuesday and will likely be a part of the team to face Argentina on Tuesday and continue to Cup in Russia next year.
The coach made it known at the pre match conference in Russia that Idowu has a strong chance of playing at the World Cup.
Rohr explained why the player could not team up with the Eagles since one year ago.
He said, “A year ago, Idowu was invited to the national team of Nigeria, but then he did not play because of the difficulty with the limit on the foreign players in the Russian championship. But now the situation has changed. And tomorrow he is likely to play.
“I look forward to having Brian not as a good interpreter in Russia, but also as a full-fledged player who will enter the team for the World Cup.”
Idowu on his part said he opted to play for Nigeria ahead of the land of his birth Russia because the Nigerian federation showed more interest.
He said, “I feel great (with Nigeria), I have been well received by both players and coaches. The atmosphere is very positive. For me this is a huge chance and experience.
“As for why I’m not playing for Russia, I shouldn’t be asked this question. I want to go to the World Cup for Nigeria, because they believed in me.”
