Siasia applies for South Africa, Pirates jobs

Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has applied for two of the top jobs in South African football. The former Super Eagles striker has applied for the vacant Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates coaching jobs according to a report by a South African news portal Soccer Laduma.

Even though recent reports have linked former Bafana and Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz with a possible return to the team, it is understood that a number of South African and international coaches have shown interest in the national team coaching job, since SAFA’s announcement that Shakes Mashaba is no longer the head coach of the side.

However, Mashaba is still contesting his dismissal from Bafana through his legal team. It has been confirmed that Siasia’s CV has been sent to SAFA. The agent who gave out the information also confirmed that Siasia’s CV has also been forwarded to Pirates too, with the Buccaneers still under the tutelage of Augusto Palacios on interim basis.

The club is believed to be working on finding the right man to fill the position left by Muhsin Ertugral, who resigned from the club in November last year.

Siasia’s last job was coaching the Nigeria U23 team to a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics last year. Siasia who was a member of the 1994 star-studded Eagles squad also coached Nigeria to a silver medal in Beijing in 2008, and was the winning coach of the African U23 Nations Cup in 2015.
