Nigerian Gift Orban overtakes Osimhen in goals race after scoring against Galatasaray

Nigerian striker Gift Orban has moved ahead of compatriot Victor Osimhen in the Turkish Super Lig goal-scoring race after scoring in Amedspor’s 4-3 defeat to Galatasaray.

Orban, who joined Amedspor on loan during the summer transfer window, scored in the second half after struggling to make an impact before the break.

The former Lyon striker headed home from close range following a quality cross from substitute Furkan Soyalp, which went beyond Galatasaray goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir.

The goal took Orban’s tally to 10 goals and five assists in 11 league appearances since the start of the campaign in August.

His latest strike also moved him above fellow Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen in the Super Lig scoring chart, with the Galatasaray striker missing the encounter after undergoing knee surgery

The former Napoli striker sustained the injury during the UEFA Champions League victory over Bundesliga side Stuttgart.

Osimhen, who has enjoyed an impressive start to the campaign, has registered nine goals and three assists in eight league appearances.

In another game, Nigerian forward Yira Sor, who came on in the second half for Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne, scored Amedspor’s third goal in the closing minutes of the encounter.

The Nigeria international displayed great composure to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner after it rebounded into his path inside the box.
