Rangers General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, has announced that the club’s women’s team will participate in the 2026/27 Nigerian Women’s Football League (NWFL) season.
Amobi disclosed this during a press briefing in Enugu on Wednesday, saying the club will soon commence open screening for players interested in making the women’s team ahead of the new season.
According to the Rangers GM, the club has acquired the league slot of Dannaz Ladies of Lagos, with about 80 percent of the discussions surrounding the deal already concluded.
Ezeaku assured that the female team would enjoy the same level of attention, support and recognition given to the Rangers men’s team, stressing that the club’s ambition is to build a strong and competitive women’s side.
He also confirmed that Coach Favour Anieke will continue to take charge of the female team. Anieke previously guided the side during the championship but could not lead the team to qualification.
He further added that the Waka City Stadium in Awka, Anambra State, remains an option for the team’s home matches, but maintained that the club’s preference is for the women to play at the same venues as the men wherever possible.
Ezeaku added that Rangers are also making plans to fully integrate the women’s team into the club’s structure once the renovation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, popularly known as the Cathedral, is completed.
The development marks a major step in Rangers International’s plans to expand its football structure and establish a competitive women’s team capable of representing the club at the highest level of Nigerian women’s football and the continent of Africa.
