Newly promoted side Inter Lagos delivered an impressive performance, grabbing three points on the road with a 1-0 win over Enyimba. The nine-time NPFL champions were beaten on a wet Sunday evening at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, in a Matchday 4 encounter of the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League.
Shakiru Biodun’s side, who came into the encounter after a heavy home defeat to City Sporting Lagos last weekend in a Matchday 2 encounter, took a shocking lead after a dramatic mix-up between Enyimba goalkeeper Ogunga Kelvin and defender Iheme Peculiar. Moses Ezekiel then struck it home with a brilliant header in the 19th minute to silence the Enyimba supporters and put the Lagos-based side 1-0 ahead.
In the second half, Enyimba Technical Adviser, Emmanuel Deutsch, made three quick substitutions when he brought on Ihemekwele Ifeanyi, Obichere Odinaka and Samuel Okechukwu to help change the situation of the game for the host.
However, the host continued to show clear dominance with more ball possession in the final 15 minutes of the game, and nearly levelled it 1-1 when Jonah James played a brilliant through ball to locate Ihemekwele, but his low strike went off the crossbar.
Inter Lagos kept on as they secured a valuable away victory and also their first win of the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
For Enyimba, it is also the first time in the history of the NPFL that they have started the campaign losing their first three games of the season.
The Enyimba Supporters In Aba are still asking about the direction of the club after three league matches and are now putting a lot of pressure on Emmanuel Deutsch to help change the team situation ahead of the Mid-week Clash with Lagos-based side, Sporting Lagos, on Wednesday in Aba.
