The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr. Musa Kida, has urged contestants in the forthcoming federation election to focus their campaigns on their programmes and vision for the development of basketball in Nigeria.
Kida made the call on Friday, September 25, while speaking to stakeholders at the Extraordinary Congress of the NBBF held at City Green Hotel, Yola, Adamawa State.
He advised the contestants to clearly present their plans for the game and explain what they intend to do for the various stakeholders in the basketball community.
According to him, the election should be centred on ideas and programmes capable of moving Nigerian basketball forward, rather than allegations or information being circulated against fellow contestants for the purpose of securing votes.
“My advice to them is to state to the stakeholders what it is that they have for the game and for the stakeholders,” Kida said.
He also urged delegates and other stakeholders to listen carefully to the different positions being presented by the contestants instead of relying solely on information passed to them by others.
He also had a word for the other stakeholders, asking them to listen carefully and not just use what people tell them against others as ways to get votes.
“Everybody must stand on his ten toes and say what he needs to do for basketball,” Kida said.
Kida’s appeal comes as stakeholders in Nigerian basketball prepare for the federation’s leadership election, with the contest expected to determine the direction of the sport under the next administration.
The NBBF president maintained that the responsibility rests on both the contestants and stakeholders to ensure that the electoral process remains focused on the growth and development of basketball.
