President Bola Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 promise to Nigeria’s women’s national team, the Super Falcons, following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Nigeria clinched a record-extending 10th continental title.

The National Sports Commission announced on Monday that the players had begun receiving payments of about ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the $100,000 reward promised by the President after the team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final in July 2025.

The Super Falcons, who were trailing 2-0, produced a spirited second-half performance to stun the hosts and reclaim the African crown, further cementing their status as the continent’s most successful women’s national team.

Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as a welcome recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The President had similarly promised and delivered $100,000 rewards to members of D’Tigress following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria secured a fifth consecutive continental title.

Mallam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade, who lead the National Sports Commission, have continued to drive a renewed approach to sports administration, with emphasis on athlete welfare, international exposure and the delivery of major sporting events.

The Commission says it commends President Tinubu for his consistent support for Nigerian athletes and for demonstrating that sporting excellence deserves tangible recognition.
