A late winner from Olalususi Michael secured the maximum points for Niger Tornadoes, following a 2-1 win over visitors, Enyimba, at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna on Sunday.
Tornadoes began the search for a goal early in the game and launched a series of attacks but met a brick wall and a determined Utum Godswill who made massive saves to keep Enyimba in the game.
It was Enyimba’s turn to test Derrick Julu in goal when their forward Jonah James broke free from the right and fired a warning shot on goal but the goalkeeper parried the effort.
The hosts got a penalty in the 38th minute when Chibueze was adjudged to have committed a foul in the box and Aliyu Goyi converted the spot kick.
Substitute, Wonah Williams levelled the scoreline 1-1 in the 72nd minute for the People’s Elephants, when he rose highest in the box to head home a perfect free kick from Iheme Peculiar.
There were half chances for both sides but it was the hosts who got the winner in the 83rd minute through a well taken strike from Olalususi, which helped Tornadoes the maximum points, as they began the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on a winning way in Minna.
