The celebrated big teams lived up to expectations as the NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball Premier League Final 8 Playoffs took off on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Lagos.
Erstwhile champions First Bank Basketball Club started the 2026 event by defeating Victoria Queens 68-57 in a well-contested match.
The Nigeria Basketball Federation flagship competition for the ladies saw the rookie team struggle to match their opponents from tip-off as First Bank took advantage of their errors to build a gap, which they held until the buzzer.
Aso Sky Queens stepped on the court after this match, and they finished with a convincing 55-36 victory against Titans.
The MFM ladies had their prayers answered with a dominant 69-35 win against the usually fluid Bayelsa Blue Whales.
MFM seized control from the opening quarter and never allowed the Bayelsa side to settle, eventually completing a 34-point rout to maintain their unbeaten record this season.
Nigeria Customs and another former champions, Air Warriors, brought the day’s action to a close with a 55-41 victory for the Customs.
